Why are TPO-free products more “demanding” to cure?
Due to recent regulatory changes in the EU, all manufacturers were required to adjust the photoinitiators in gels and gel polishes. This brought several challenges, and while some users adapt easily to the new formulations, others may notice difficulties achieving a complete curing process.
To make the transition easier for you, we want to clarify what is actually changing in our industry.
What matters for curing – the wavelength of light
Nanometers (nm) are the units used to measure the wavelength of light. In lamp descriptions, you often see the range 365–405 nm, which is extremely important for properly activating different photoinitiators.
Every photoinitiator reacts to a specific part of the light spectrum.
A lamp that covers a wide range (365–405 nm) activates a larger number of photoinitiators – including those found in the new TPO-free formulations.
Why do some lamps no longer cure certain products?
For example, a lamp that operates in a narrower A spectrum, such as 380–395 nm, may properly cure most products – but not all, especially not TPO-free and HEMA-free formulations.
This is why we recommend using wide-spectrum lamps (365–405 nm), as they cover more photoinitiators, allowing products to cure faster and more completely.
